    RESEARCH INTERESTS
Dr. Shao’s research is focused on the development and application of chemometric methods for complex data analysis. The methods are implemented primarily in, but not limited to, Matlab codes. Chemometrics is an interdisciplinary field in which mathematical and statistical methods are combined with computer programs to retrieve qualitative and quantitative information from experimental data that are subject to complexity and/or interferences.
Dr. Shao’s research also includes data manipulation and analysis of atmospheric monitoring using a technique known as open-path Fourier transform infrared (OP/FT-IR) spectroscopy. Currently a prototype of the software package has been developed. With this package, the analysis of OP/FT-IR measurements is completely automatic; concentrations of small molecules in air such as methane, ammonia, nitrous oxide are calculated without any intervention.
